Company History

Company History Pic

Castech began operations at Woodville in South Australia in 1947 and was originally owned by Don Stoddart & Partners. It was a non-ferrous foundry, specialising in the production of copper-based alloy and aluminium castings.

The present owner, Phil Stoddart, is Don’s son and has worked in the business since he was a teenager. He purchased Castech in 1983 and immediately commenced plans to upgrade and modernise the foundry operations. A new foundry, featuring new equipment and more extensive capabilities, was built on the current site at Wingfield in 1989. To meet the needs of our customers, we have increased our casting range to include both  ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

The Plant

The modern Castech plant covers an area of 1200 square metres and houses:

· three induction furnaces
· two resistance furnaces
· one gas-fired furnace.

Melting capacities range from 100 to 1000 kg. This means that we are able to produce your castings in various alloys and a range of sizes.

To guarantee the integrity of your castings, we employ the latest computer-aided technology to perform casting solidification simulation before actual moulding takes place. Then, prior to pouring every heat, we analyse the metal, using optical emission spectrometry and computer-generated correction to ensure that each production run is the same and certified as conforming.
